Educator Marjory Steuart Golder, 98, a retired teacher and university dean who was a Washington native and resident, died of cardiac arrest April 26 at her home.

Mrs. Golder was a graduate of Western High School and a 1914 graduate of Northwestern University. She received a master's degree in English literature from Columbia University. She taught high school for two years in Texas before returning here in 1916. For the next four years, she worked for the Red Cross and then the War Department.

She lived in Washington again from about 1927 to 1938, and was registrar at American University from 1935 to 1938. Mrs. Golder had taught at Lawrence University in Wisconsin from 1921 to 1923, and was women's dean at the University of Delaware from 1938 to 1945, then at the College of Wooster in Ohio for 14 years before retiring in 1960. She returned to Washington in 1970 from North Carolina.

Her husband, Harold Golder, whom she married in 1925, died in 1934.

Her survivors include a son, John Steuart Golder of Charlotte, N.C.; a daughter, Sarah Golder Dixon of Columbia, Mo.; two sisters, Emily N. Steuart of Washington and Linda Steuart Rehm of Leesburg; three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
