Enlisted in Rotherham 8th August 1914.

First served in a theatre of war in France 13th April 1915.

Regiment/Service:York and Lancaster Regiment 5th Battalion.

Son of John and Elizabeth Ellen Lloyd nee Boyce late of Rotherham.

Husband of Mary Emma Lloyd nee Marshall (married 1899), of 73, Manchester Rd., Mossley, Manchester.

At the time of his enlistment Edward was in good health, 5’6” tall and with good eyesight. His occupation is described as “Engineer” there is a suggestion that he has previous service which would explain his early enlistment despite being over 40. On 16th November 1914 he was promoted to Lance Corporal while serving at home. He embarked at Folkestone, having been posted to France, on 13th April 1915. On 25th May 1915 Edward was promoted to Corporal.
