Funeral services for S. J. (Bill) Carter, 68, were held Tuesday at South Side Baptist Church in Norman Park. The Revs. Gary Caldwell and Quinton Barnes officiated. Burial was in Oak Dale Cemetery.
Mr. Carter died after a brief illness Saturday at Phoebe Putney Hospital in Albany. Since 1963, he had lived at 14** Hall Ave. Tifton. He operated a private security guard company.
Pallbearers were Ricky Carter, Ben Weaver, John Weaver, Ken Weaver, Danny Singley and Lonnie Tyler.
A native of Carroll County, he was born Nov. 21. 1918, the son of Stephen Carter and Lonnie Weaver Carter of Colquitt County. His wife was the former Oneita Weaver of Norman Park. He was a member of Northside Baptist Church of Tifton.
Nr. Carter had served as warden for Tift, Worth and Grady counties. He had also served as president of the Georgia Prison Wardens Association.
He is survived by his wife of Tifton, one son, one daughter, one brother: I. F. (Bud) Carter, Americus, three sisters, Mrs. Bennie Key and Mrs. Herman Steele, both of Lakeland, Fl,. and Lucille Johnson, LaGrange, Texas, and several nieces and nephews.
