Melvin was the oldest of three children born to Louis Wilder Jr. and Cosie Rosana (Williams) Holmes. He married Edna Earle Drew and they were the parents of four children: David Melvin, Linda Marie, Mary and Diane.

LUMBERTON -- Melvin Moore Holmes, 73, of 105 Elmhurst Drive died Monday in his home.

Mr. Holmes was an elder and a trustee of Christian & Missionary Alliance in Fayetteville and a member of Newgate Church. He was an agent for Life of Georgia Insurance Co. for 30 years.

The funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Friday in Floyd Memorial Chapel by the Rev. Bobby Phillips. Burial will be in Gardens of Faith Cemetery.

Mr. Holmes is survived by his wife, Edna Holmes of the home; a son, David M. Holmes of Sanford; two daughters, Mary H. Thompson of Columbia, Miss., and Diane Holmes of Missouri; a sister, Mildred H. Houser of Greensboro; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Floyd Mortuary & Crematory in Lumberton.
