On October 31, 1819 Ellison Seneca Norcott, son of John Norcott, Jr. and Sarah Lacy of Penn Yan, Yates Co., NY, was born in New Brunswick, Middlesex Co., NJ. In 1820 he and his parents moved from New Jersey to Yates Co., NY where his siblings were born in Penn Yan ... Nathan, John, Franklin, Sarah, Andrew, William, Henry and Charles. Before 1843 Ellison married Almira Lacey WOODHULL in Yates Co., NY. In 1844 Ellison, Almira and their son Frederick moved to Seneca Falls, Seneca Co., NY, where Ellison was a tinsmith. It was here that their children Mary, Charles and Sarah were born. In 1850 Ellison, Almira and their family moved to Canton, Fulton Co., IL where their sons John and William were born. On June 4, 1860 Almira died in Canton. On June 30, 1864 Ellison married Elizabeth L. MIFFLIN (nee HERR) in Canton. Elizabeth had four sons, Abram, Henry, Samuel and William MIFFLIN whom Ellison helped to raise along with his own sons, Charles and William. Ellison remained a tinsmith in Canton until the 1870s when he became proprietor of the T.P. & W.R.R. Depot Hotel, also in Canton. After 1880 Ellison moved to Chicago, IL along with his children, Mary, Charles and William. In 1887 and 1889 Ellison Norcott's occupation was listed as a tinner in the Chicago, Illinois City Directories. His shop was located at 61 N. Clark St. and he resided at 536 N. Clark. In 1892 Ellison and his son William H. are shown on the Chicago Voter Registration List. On the 1900 United States Census for Chicago Ellison's occupations is listed as Sheet Metal Worker. On July 2, 1910 Ellison Norcott died of heart disease in Chicago. His remains were returned to Canton, IL where on July 4th he was buried with his wife Almira at Greenwood Cemetery.
