Alvin Louis Kraatz. Sr. was the son of Louis John and Gertrude Henrietta Wilhelmina (Kaegebien) Kraatz. Kathryn Wilhelmina (Laube) Kraatz was his 1st wife. She died January 1975. Marion Augusta (Liemberger) Kraatz Murphy was his 2nd wife. She died January 4, 2011. They lived 71 Dawnbrook Lane, Williamsville, New York.

KRAATZ.--A memorial service was held Monday, January 5, in the Williamsville United Methodist Church, for Alvin L. Kraatz, Sr., age 70, past president of the Council of Churches of Buffalo and Erie County and a longtime lay church leader and retired businessman. Mr. Kraatz, a Williamsville resident, died Friday (Jan. 2, 1981) in St. Joseph Intercommunity Hospital after a two-week illness. Mr. Kraatz was elected council president in 1961, after leading the organization's local delegation to the World Council of Churches Assembly in New Delhi, India. In September 1962, he temporarily resigned as president of interim executive secretary to the council. FOR 57 YEARS, MR. KRAATZ WAS ACTIVE IN AREA CHURCH CHOIRS, MOST RECENTLY WITH THE WILLIAMSVILLE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH CHOIR. He was a trustee of the Bible Society of Western New York and its president in 1967; a trustee of the Folts Home of Herkimer, and treasurer of the Amherst Senior Citizens Friday Bowling League. Affiliated with the dairy industry for over 30 years, Mr. Kraatz was the retired president of the old Karts Dairy and a former trustee for Dairy Queen Stores. He was a YMCA director for many years and a past president of the Evangelical Brethren New York Conference. Mr. Kraatz was born in Alabama, New York, and graduated from Akron High School. His first wife, the former Kathryn W. Laube, died in 1975. Surviving are his second wife, Marion A. Kraatz; two daughters, Gretchen Berger of Pittsford and Karen Eckel of Danville, Calif.; two sons, the Rev. Christian Kraatz of Pavilion and the Rev. Alvin Kraatz, Jr. of Orchard Park; three sisters, Ruth Zimmerman of Akron, Esther Reddrop of Florida and Viola Kraatz of Auburn; and seven grandchildren. Interment was in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
