Mr Hanson was a ship captain. He was one of the first to move lumber out of Oceana co across Lake Michigan. While in Milwaukee he met Betsey Austin and married in 1846. He brought her back to White River where they were the first white settlers. They had 9 children & their only neighbors were the Indians until 1848 when Dr. Thomas Phillips & wife moved to Claybanks. He held the office of Deputy Marshall for several years and was counsel to Sweden & Norway for several years. He was also a farmer.
