Elias W. Gilmer was 75 years old and resided at 128 South Tenth street. He had been in failing health for some time. Shortly after 8:30 o'clock Sunday morning he went to the rear yard at his home to look after his chickens. Members of his family heard him give an exclamation, as if in pain, and started to see what was the matter. Mr. Gilmer was on his way to the house. He reached the porch and sank on a chair. When members of his family got to him he was dead. A physician summoned declared that the sudden demise had been occasioned by paralysis of the heart.

The deceased was a native of Tinicum, Bucks county, but had been a resident of Easton during the past 14 years.

During the Civil War he served as a member of the One Hundred and Seventy fourth Regiment Pennsylvania Volunteers and was sergeant in Company F.

He is survived by a widow and two children of Easton. The deceased is also survived by one brother of Erwinna, Bucks county; and two sisters, one of Point Pleasant, and one of Perkasie.

Mr. Gilmer was a member of Lafayette Post, No. 217, G. A. R.
