He was born on Dec. 17, 1940, in Shullsburg, Wis., son of Clyde and Jenalda (Poppa) Mullen. He attended school at Mineral Point High School.
He moved to Iowa in the early 1970s and worked at Hennessey Buying Station from the early 1960s until 1985.
James thoroughly enjoyed watching and attending auto races and visited many tracks all over the United States.
Surviving are his two sons, Kurt (Angie) Mullen and Joe (Libby) Mullen, both of Manchester; four grandchildren, Logan, Spencer, Allison and Erin, all of Manchester; two brothers, Don (Diane) Mullen and Bob (Terri) Mullen.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents.
