Joseph V. Prebil, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Prebil, 120 Eight street northwest, entered the service Feb. 20, 1943, and was shot down by a German fighter plane over Mantua, Italy, Oct. 19, 1944 as a member of the U. S. Army Air 15th AAF, stationed in Italy. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Silver Star, Purple Heart, Presidential Unit citation, and the French Presidential citation.
