Major League Baseball Umpire. He served as an Umpire in the National League from 1982 to 1999. When he umpired Game 4 of the 1993 World Series between the Toronto Blue Jays and the Philadelphia Phillies, he became the first African-American umpire to work a World Series. He retired due to health, and he died of complications from diabetes.
