Retired SFC Alonzo Small Jr., was known as "Champ" was born 22 May 1927 to Alice and Alonzo Small Sr. in Canonsburg, Pa. SFC Small passed away on Saturday, Aug. 19, 2000.
Alonzo joined the military after graduating from Pennsylvania school system. In the US Army, "Champ" served in the Korean conflict and two tours in Vietnam. Small was very athletic and played tackle in football, he also became a heavyweight boxing "Champ" for All Army and All Second Army.
In 1954, Alonzo married Irene Williams. They had two children; Allison & Michael.
