U.S. Congressman. He attended Albion College and with to advent of the Civil War, he entered the Union Army, serving with the Army of the Cumberland and the Army of the Ohio. After the war he settled in Plattsburg, New York, engaged in banking and was elected Clinton County Treasurer, serving (1884 to 1887). In 1891, he was elected as a Republican to the Fifty-second and Fifty-third Congresses, serving until 1895. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he was a cashier and later president of the Merchants' National Bank of Plattsburg, New York, until his death.
