U.S. Congressman. A graduate of the New York State Normal School in 1903, he taught school in Clinton County, plus served as secretary to Congressmen George R. Malby (1909-12) and Edwin A. Merritt, (1912-14). He studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1913 and commenced to practice law in Plattsburg, New York, in 1914. He was a member of the New York State Assembly (1916-20), was president of the board of visitors of the Plattsburg State Normal School, (1926-40) and a member of the New York State Republican executive committee, (1934-40). In 1939, he was elected as a Republican to the Seventy-sixth Congress and served until his death at age 58.
