James Flood was born about 1835.( My estimate from the 1870 census.) He and his wife Jane were born in Ireland and came to America.

In the 1860 census he is listed as 30 years old, worked as a laborer and living in Allegheny County PA with wife Jane age 25, and Rosanna age 1 and Bernard age 3 months. It says Rosanana was born in Arkansas, Wonder what that was about.

He enlisted April 5th and mustered on the 26th, 1863 as a Private in the 4th Calvary Regiment,Pennsylvania Volunteers. Company B was formed in Allegheny County. It was led by Captain James L Genet at the time of discharge. He and the rest of the Company were demobilized on July 1rst, 1865 in Lynchburgh Virginia.. A detailed list of Regiment activity can be found at civilwararchives.com

A 1870 census lists him as 35, with wife Jane and children Bernard 11, Mary 6, Jane 6, Sarah 4 and Katie 2.

James fought in the Civil War in Company B, Pennsylvania 4th regiment. He was one of those Irish immigrants that were paid $300 to enlist, often to take somebody else's draft place.
I was told he was in Libby prison, a Confederate POW prison camp which was very overcrowded and harsh, and died not long after release from TB = consumption, at about age 35. It would not be uncommon to catch TB in those horrible places where so few survived. He was with his regiment at discharge, so I don't know if this was true but ifthis is what happened, or he caught TB in the service which is plausible, then James died in the service of his adopted country.
I have posted his Civil War discharge papers.

He did die at age 35 per St Mary's cemetery records.

Jane and James Flood were first buried in St Mary's Cemetery of Pittsburgh. They were later moved to Calvary cemetery in Pittsburgh, and re-interred there, James on February 11th, 1896 and Jane on November 8, 1896. They are in the same grave. Maybe the dirt on the first one had to settle in before you could put in the second one.
They don't have any marker. There are 12 people in the lot, all without a headstone. Not sure how you'd put headstones on stacked graves.

I have no idea why they were moved, but I do note their daughter Mary Flood Neely is buried in the next lot over, Lot 195, so that must be part of it.

Calvary records say the plot was purchased by a Dennis Hayes on January 8th, 1895. James and Jane's daughter Sarah C Flood married Thomas Hayes, explains why many Hayes buried here.

James, I think you worked hard, but didn't get to live very long. Thank you for all you did so we could exist
Their daughter Jennie Flood King is in Calvary too but in a different plot Grave 1 is James (1835-1870) and Jane Flood (1935-1895) , who are Frances's parents.
Everybody else in this plot are relatives of Frances's r husband Dennis Hayes Jr.
Frances married Dennis Hayes Jr (1859-1953) who is in grave 2.
Dennis Hayes Sr. (1825-1896) is Dennis Haye's Jr's father. He is in grave 4.
Dennis Hayes Sr's wife is Annie Haley Hayes ( 1834-1907) who is in grave 5.
Another son of Dennis Hayes Sr and Annie is Thaddeus Hayes (1871-1911) who is buried in grave 5 with his mother.
Dennis Hayes Jr's children include Alice Hayes Nary ( 1898- 1933) who is in grave 8. She is the wife of Martin Nary, not here. There is a John ( -1927) Nary in grave 2 who must be a child or a relative of her husband
Another child of Dennis Hayes Jr is Elizabeth Hayes Hughes ( 1905-1989) who is in grave 3. Her husband Paul is not here.
A third child of Dennis Hayes Jr is Frances J. Hayes ( 1898-1981) who is in grave 12.
A fourth child of Dennis Hayes Jr is Annie Hayes Markey.(1879-1964) who is in grave 11.
