Carl H. Johnson, 83, of Marinette, passed away Friday, December 6th, 2013 at Bellin Hospital in Green Bay following a long illness. He was born on July 18th, 1930 in Wellsburg Brooke, W.V. to Carl G. and Edith Johnson. The family returned to Marinette while Carl was an infant and he graduated from Marinette High School in 1948. He also was a graduate of the Milwaukee School of Engineering. Carl enlisted in the Navy in 1951 and served as a Radio Operator on the USS Newport News until being Honorably Discharged in 1954. On October 17, 1959, he married the former Carole Benoit of Marinette. They resided in Milwaukee where he was employed as an Electronic Technician at AC Delco. In 1973, they returned to Marinette where Carl built their home on Bay with his own hands. He was employed at Marinette Marine until his retirement in 1992. Carl was devoted Packer fan his entire life and collected anything Green and Gold. He also enjoyed the outdoors, golf, and hunting. But he especially loved the Bay; fishing and boating, sailing, ice boating and even just watching the ever changing view from their picture window of the water as the sun rose and set each day. But, what Carl loved most of all, was his wife and family. Their wellbeing and happiness was his mission in life. Carl was an active member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church until health issues kept him at home. Survivors include his wife, Carole of Marinette; sister, Gunnel Arnvist of Sweden; sons: David (Bonnie) Johnson of Appleton, Wis. and Mark (Shelly) Johnson of Highland Ranch, Colo.; daughter, Lynne (Paul) Fritz of Peshtigo, Wis.; seven grandchildren: Christopher Johnson and Amanda Kletti of Appleton, Wis., Brianne, Hannah and Zane Johnson of Highland Ranch, Colo., Samantha Fritz of Peshtigo, and Kimberlyn Fritz of Wayside, Wis. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl G. and Edith Johnson; brothers: George Johnson and Iver Johnson; and a sister, Ruth Johnson. Private family funeral services will be held. Berth & Rosenthal Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. (Marinette-Menominee Eagle Herald, 10 December 2013)
