Robert Hayes Houston, 82, died at 1:15 p.m. on Sunday, December 15, 2013, at his home. He was born on April 9, 1931, in Elkville, Ill., to George Washington and Catherine Celeste Anheuser Houston. He married Letha Catherine Anders and she preceded him in death.

Survivors include his companion of fifteen years, Margaret Neuf of Springfield; three daughters, Robyn (Wayne) Page of Jasper, Ga., Brenda Painter of Springfield and Laura (Roy) Funk of Hagerstown, Md.; two sons, Robert Harold (Betty) Houston, Sr., of Loami and George Michael (Gena) Houston of Springfield; one step-daughter, Marjie Neuf of Springfield; three step-sons, Lou (Penny) Neuf of Rochester, and Ed (Marla) Neuf and Bob Neuf, both of Bradenton, Fla.; six grandsons, two granddaughters, three step-granddaughters; several great-grandchildren; one sister, Margaret Ann Monroe of Pekin; one step-daughter-in-law, Liz Neuf of St. Louis; several nieces and nephews; and a large extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; three brothers, Jim, George and Bill and one sister, Audrey Adams.

Robert attended Rochester Christian Church. He was a Big Band enthusiast and met many of the band leaders at the Leland Hotel. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family at his cabin in Snicarte. Robert was a chef for forty-eight years in the Springfield area, working at the Leland Hotel, the Caucus Room @ Lincoln Towers and the Fairview Tavern.

Graveside Service: 1 p.m., Wednesday, December 18, 2013, at Oak Ridge Cemetery with Chaplain John Nelson officiating.
