Richard J. Rondeau, 90, of Rockland, passed away on Dec. 18, 2013 in Rockland after a long illness. He was born in Brockton, son of the late Joseph and Mary (Nolan) Rondeau and was raised and educated in the city graduating from Brockton High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII after high school. He was stationed in Paris Island, SC and transferred to California as a member of the newly formed 5th Marine Division. He was assigned to serve in the Pacific Theatre and was part of the invasion of Iwo Jima, Japan. Upon his discharge, he enrolled at Boston University and received a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration. Richard used his education in a long and distinguished career at Rockland Trust Co. where he started as a bank teller. His career quickly escalated to bank manager, where he was instrumental in the opening of the Marshfield branch. One of his many accolades in the bank was a redesign of the money drawer that was used by all tellers in the company, creating much more accurate and efficient transactions. His personal attention to clients was well known throughout the community, where he would be asked for by name. From Marshfield his career took him to the Main Office location of Rockland Trust Co. in Rockland, where his latest role was that of Senior Vice President, retiring after nearly 40 years. A Rockland resident since 1951, he was active in civic affairs including serving as President of the Marshfield Kiwanis Club, a Life Member of the One Hundred Club of Massachusetts, Secretary of the American Bankers Association, and as the financial administrator of the Marshfield Fair for many years. In his spare time he took great delight in building and remodeling his home, building clocks and taking meticulous care of his automobiles, and walking his dog. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Joyce M. (Rinkus) Rondeau, whom he adored, and their children, Patricia E. Kelly and her husband Richard of Hanover, Richard J. Rondeau, Jr. and his wife Lynn of Hanover, and Michele J. Lamothe and her husband Thomas of Northborough. He was the brother of Elizabeth Noone of CA and the late Arthur Rondeau. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The Rondeau family welcomes friends and loved ones to celebrate his life on Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013 from 3 - 5 p.m. at the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home, 135 Union St. Rockland. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary of the Sacred Heart Church in Hanover on Monday Dec. 23, 2013 at 10 a.m. Burial with Military Honors will be at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in a private ceremony at a later date.
