Zephyr Chisom Carter (November 14, 1891 - September 8, 1976) was one of the 22 amazingly talented founders of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. She was the Alpha Chapter's first Reporter. During her time at Howard University, she took part in many extra curricular activities, including an active role in the collegiate chapter of the NAACP. She was acknowledged as an outstanding leader. Although she started her teaching career in Texas, she later moved to California because she was not only a gifted singer but actress as well. She sang with a chorus doing background music for movies and did backup singing for television shows. She attended business school at night and worked as a security officer for the Department of Employment (for the state of California) during the day.
