She attended the Winchester schools and graduated from Gem City Business College, Quincy, IL in 1932. She was employed for 7 years in the Harry Kirkman Variety Store in Winchester, and for 26 years in the law office of L. Allan Watt as a legal secretary. She married Lawrence J. Gillham on February 17, 1940. On September 17, 1943 they became the parents of twin daughters, Carol Jane and Karen Jean Gillham. She was a member of the Winchester 1st Christian Church, CWF, DAR, Eastern Star, Home Extension and the Winchester Womens Club.

She married Lawrence J. Gillham, February 17, 1940, and he preceded her in death December 6, 1976. Their daughter Karen Gillham died in 2008.
