After growing up on the Mississippi Coast, Glenn graduated from the University of Mississippi and served in the Navy during the Korean War. He settled in California with his wife, Jo Ann, whom he met while stationed in Japan. Glenn worked for North American Aviation in southern California and then for Explosive Technology in northern California, where the family raised sheep.
