He was killed piloting U.S. Army Air Corps P-39K
Airacobra #42-4326 in a mid-air collision,
one mile west of La Joya Field, Panama.

Blessing services and burial in Calvary
Cemetery took place yesterday for Second Lt.
John R. Gloninger Jr., who was killed while on
flight patrol duty in October, 1943, in the
Caribbean area.
Son of Mr. and Mrs. John R. Gloninger,
4923 Wallingford St., he was 26 years old.
A graduate of Pittsburgh Central High School,
Lt. Gloninger was a real estate and insurance
salesman before joining the Army Air Force.
Surviving besides his parents are two sisters,
Miss Mimi Gloninger and Mrs. Dennis McAuley,
and three brothers, David, J. Leslie and
Hugh Gloninger.
