Mr. Paul Daniel Shook, 90, of Paul Payne Store Rd., Stony Point passed away Friday, December 27, 2013 after a period of declining health.

Mr. Shook was born March 15, 1923 in Alexander County to the late Charley Shook and Louella Dagenhart Shook.

Mr. Shook was a WWII veteran. He served on the USS Montpelier and was awarded the Purple Heart. He had worked 40 years at Duke Power as a lineman and line foreman. He was a member of Marvin United Methodist Church and an active member in various church activities. He was affiliated with DAV Chapter 84. He was an owner of Adams Funeral Home. He also loved the beach and travel.

Including his parents, he is preceded in death by: a sister, Maybelle Grant.

Those left to cherish his memory include: his wife, Betty Rector Shook of the home; a step-daughter, Kaye Sipe and friend, Craig Williams, of Taylorsville; a step-son, Tim Rector and wife, Audrey, of Taylorsville; a sister, Rachel Brown of Taylorsville; a brother, Clyde Shook of Taylorsville; two grandchildren, Tiffany Sprinkle and husband, Eric, Kelsey Anderson and husband, Stephen, all of Taylorsville; two great grandchildren, Erica Sprinkle and Lainey Anderson; and a number of nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be 3 p.m. Monday, December 30, 2013 at Marvin United Methodist Church. The Revs. Phil Jolly and Naomi King will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Memorials may be given to: Hospice of Alexander County, 50 Lucy Echerd Lane, Taylorsville, NC 28681.
