Harriet graduated DePaul University with a degree in Math and was one of the first women in the computer programming field. She married Fred Gorny in 1965. They had 2 daughters, Ellen Marie and Jean Marie. Harriet went on to get a master's degree in library science to further apply her computer programming knowledge.
She died suddenly as a result of Marfan's syndrome.
