Mr. Karn was born January 13, 1908, in Sanborn, Iowa, the son of Herman and Irene (Bull) Karn. He moved with his parents to Courtenay, where he grew up and attended school. He lived on the west coast for a short time before moving to Pettibone, where he worked as a farm laborer. He married Caroline Mack August 10, 1932, at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Sykeston. They farmed near Pettibone until 1942, when they moved to Dazey to farm. They moved in 1944 to Nome, where he farmed and owned a liquor store at Rogers. They bought a farm at Kensal in 1945 and farmed there until moving to Jamestown in 1968. He owned and operated Dairy Queen in Jamestown for a short time. He worked part-time for Thompson Motor Homes until retiring in 1983. He was a member of The Basilica of St. James, Knights of Columbus Council 1883 of Jamestown and the Jamestown Eagles.
Survivors include his wife; a son and daughter-in-law, Orville and Joyce, Bozeman, Montana; four daughters and sons-in-law, Irene and Philip Eckroth, and Ella and Bob Rettig, all Jamestown; Clara and Cal Oathoudt, Jackson, Michigan; and Rosa and Dan Hydeman, Visalia, California; a brother, Carroll, Casselton; 20 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, a sister and a grandson.
