Darrin Barrington-Torres, alongside his sister Dai-Zshia Torres, died at the hands of the one they trusted the most: their guardian and adoptive great grandmother, Caroline Young.

Young was the 51-year-old grandmother of Vanessa Torres, who, at the time, was deemed to be unfit to care for her children and was sent jail for drugs and prostitution. This ultimately led her daughter's children, Darrin and Dai-Zshia, to be transferred into the custody of Young. Unfortunately, this would create a twisted connection in Caroline's mind, where she believed she was the only one who was allowed to care for the kids: if she couldn't, no one could.

When the father of the children, Bruce, was informed of their existence after being told that he owed $12,000 in child support, he began a custody battle with Young in which he won and began preparing to take home the children.

On the day that Bruce arrived in the Bay Area to pick up his son, Darrin Torres, Young killed the 6 and 4-year-olds whilst they were asleep in their beds.

Upon the arrival of police, Young was arrested and put on trial where her guilt was going to be determined by a jury. After less than 3 hours of deliberation, Caroline Young was convicted and sentenced to death where she later died on death row.

Darrin and his sister deserved nothing less than a loving parental figure to care and look out for them, but instead they left Earth because of one selfish woman's actions. May Darrin and Dai-Zshia rest in peace.
