JOHN McKENNA

DIED – On November 6th, 1870, John McKenna, aged 24 years, 4 months and 26 days.
The above announcement conveys to every person who knew the deceased in mournful thought, and over the community a gloom has been cast that future events will have to remove from human minds and at the same time will serve as a warning to all who believe that Death does not make a selection between young and old. He comes when least expected and we hope our readers will be prepared to meet the Monster by making their peace with the Creator and their fellow men. Only think of it! One of our best young men, an ornament to society and an honor to the parents has been suddenly snatched away. Grief rules the McKenna household and sorrow is pictured in the faces of poor John's numerous friends. Tears course down the countenances and better feeling against the Destroyer affects nearly every heart. Mark our words, however, John is at rest. It is a peaceful one. While in life he discharged his duty in every particular, and while we drop a tear to his memory and give a word of sympathy to his relatives, let us also remember "that the good die young" and He who controlleth the elements commits no wrong. His disease was a pulmonary one. Requiescat in pace.
