PRINCETON - Ruby Combs, 89, of Princeton, went to be with the Lord on Friday, November 18, 2011. Born January 9, 1922 at Arista, she was the daughter of the late Charles William Akers and Florence Adaway Akers. Mrs. Combs was a longtime member of Johnston's Chapel on Halls Ridge Road in Princeton. She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great, great-grandmother and friend. She enjoyed quilting, embroidering, gardening and canning. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, William J. Combs; eight brothers, Clarence Akers, Ray Akers, Roy Akers, Clayburn Akers, Otis Akers, Jesse Akers, Clinton Akers and Murry Cruise; three sisters, Helen Hurst, Betty Mills and Virginia Cruise; and one granddaughter, Rebecca M. Combs. Survivors include one daughter, Paulette Lamb of Waiteville; four sons, Terry Combs and wife Linda of Peterstown, Rick Combs and wife Bernice of Princeton, Steve Marsh and wife Kim of Princeton and Jeff Marsh and wife Penne of Suffolk, VA; five grandchildren, Angela Oliff, Michael Combs and his wife Amanda, Denna Nelson, Michael Cody and his wife Rachael and Jonathan Cody and his wife Brittany; 13 great-grandchildren, Tony, Kayla and Sarah Marsh, Heather, Kelli and Lorene Oliff, Joshua and Grace Combs, Haley Combs, Jaden Nelson, Josh Helton and his wife Angie and Heather and Justin Lewis, Clara Tyler and Andrew Cody; and five great, great-grandchildren, Brook and Emily Oliff, Payton and Gage Helton and Riley Goodman. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 21, 2011 at the Rowland H. Bailey Funeral Home in Princeton with the Rev. Jim Simmons officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. Serving as pallbearers will be Mike Combs, Mike Cody, Jon Cody, Jackie Combs, Jr. Akers and Tony Marsh.
