Marcella M. Nemmers, 83, of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away on Friday, January 17, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

A funeral Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 21, 2014, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Le Mars. Father Kevin Richter will celebrate the Mass. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 20, 2014, at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. A rosary will be prayed at 4:00 p.m., with a Scriptural prayer service at 7:00 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to Mass on Tuesday.

Marcella Margaret Nemmers was born on February 17, 1930, in Le Mars, the daughter of John and Rose (Kusser) Erdmann. She attended St. Joseph's Catholic School in Le Mars, graduating in 1948. Following high school, Marcella worked at Iowa Public Service in the office.

On June 3, 1952, Marcella and Marvin "Sonny" Nemmers were united in marriage at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars. Along with raising her family, Marcella also worked at the Fashionette, did daycare for other family members, and assisted with the management of the Erdmann rental properties.

Marcella was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She participated in Catholic Daughters and Christian Mothers, along with church guild. She enjoyed working in her yard, gardening, playing bridge and cards. When Sonny was living, the couple traveled with family and friends. Marcella was happiest at home with her family and loved activities with her grandchildren.

She will be lovingly remembered by her four children and grandchildren, Becky Beitelspacher and her husband, Henry of Le Mars and their children Kyle and special friend Kristin Corlett (great-grandson Logan), Troy and his wife Amanda (great-grandchildren Alaina, Carter, and Hailey), Laura Weiler and her husband Eric (great-grandchildren Ty and Mya), Lisa Eickholt and her husband Joe, Jackie Breuer and her husband Kevin, and Ryan; Doug Nemmers and his wife, Rita of Le Mars and their children Benjamin, Nathan, and Bethany; Judy Clement and her husband Dan of Le Mars and their children, Jared, Cara, and Leah; and Mark Nemmers and his wife Pam of Le Mars and their children Maggie Rechtenbaugh and her husband Myke, Adam, Mollie, and Jacob; sisters, Rosemary Robinette, Betty Erdmann, and Marie Schmitz of Le Mars, Sister Rosalie (Anna) Erdmann, S.L.W. of Sioux City, and Pat Kolhoff and her husband Paul of Round Rock, TX; a brother, Bernard Erdmann and his wife Arlene of Le Mars; sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Mayrose, Marge Livermore, Barb Baack, and Betty Shea, all of Le Mars; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marvin "Sonny" on January 31, 2006; a daughter, Terri Nemmers; a great-grandson, Caleb Wyler; mother- and father-in-law, Lucille and Leo Nemmers; six brothers-in-law, Bill Baack, Leonard Mayrose, Hank Livermore, Gordon Schmitz, Arnold Robinette, and Steve Shea; a niece, Bev Cockrell; and two nephews, Steve Mayrose and Joe Robinette.
