Mr. Ernest E. Church, age 97 of Johnson City, passed away Friday, January 17, 2014, in the Christian Care Center of Johnson City.
Mr. Church was a native of Avery County, North Carolina. He was the son of the late Lloyd and Emma Harmon Church. In addition to his parent's, his first wife, Mary Irene Church; one son, Roger G. Church; his second wife, Retha Stout Church; four brothers, Tracey Church, Dexter Church, Dean Church and Harold Church; two sisters, Harlene Ross and Thelma Morrison also preceded him in death.
Mr. Church retired from General Shale after thirty-eight years of service. He attended Piney Grove Freewill Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Beverly Hurt and her husband Eugene; one brother, Bob Church and his wife Louise; one granddaughter, Wendy Zona and her husband Terry; two great grandchildren, Ben Johnson and Shawn Zona; several nieces and nephews.

The family of Mr. Ernest E. Church will receive friends from 5 to 7 PM Monday, January 20, 2014 in the Morris-Baker North Chapel. The funeral service will follow in the North Chapel at 7 PM. John C. Jones will officiate. The graveside committal service will be conducted at 1 PM Tuesday in the Monte Vista Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Minister, family and friends are requested to meet at the funeral home by 12:30 PM Tuesday to go in procession to the cemetery.
