Rev. N. Stumps
Funeral services were held today at 11 a.m. at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception for Rev. Nicholas A. Stumps, 81, a resident at St. Vincent's Nursing Home. He died Friday morning.
Burial will be at Chicago. Celebrants were priests of the Diocese with Rev. Joseph Mulvey, main celebrant.
Rev. Stumps is survived by a sister, Mrs. Susan MaDonough, Chicago, and 13 nieces and nephews.
He was born in Chicago to Nicholas Stumps Sr. and Katheryn Thomas on November 20, 1890.
He went to school for four years at St. Mary in Cincinnati before transferring to the St. Paul Seminary in St. Paul, where he was ordained in 1918.
He served the Crookston diocese, Sacred Heart in East Grand Forks, St. Phillip's of Bemidji, Sacred Heart at Baudette, St. Peter and Paul at Warren, St. Elizabeth in Dilworth, Minnesota. He also served as chaplain to the St. Vincent's Nursing Home from 1952-1966 until his retirement.
Pallbearers were Gusave Halstad, Emil Klava, Russel Maves, Raymond Miska, Manley Millard and George Rauenbuehler.
