Townsend—In Penn Yan, January 24, 1921, William Henry Townsend, aged 67 years. He had been in poor health the last few years. He was born in Torrey August 30, 1857, the son of Charles and Catherine Castner Townsend. He was a man of pleasing personality and wide acquaintance, and made and retained friends easily. When a young man Mr. Townsend was noted for great strength. He was of stocky build, and had no difficulty in lifting dead weight from the ground, that others could not budge. He served Yates county as Superintendent of the Poor for twelve years faithfully and conscientiously.
He leaves his wife, one son Charles, of Watertown, a brother Charles E., of Phoenix, and a sister, Mrs. John Reznor, of Canandaigua.
The funeral was held on Wednesday afternoon, Rev. C. K. Imbrie, of the Presbyterian church, officiating. Burial in the Dresden cemetery.
