WALTER S. MATTHES, 64, of Third St., Cardington, died today in his home.
Born October 1, 1889, in Westfield Twp., Morrow county, he was a son of Frederick R. Matthes and Mary Schwartz Matthes, the father a native of Germany and the mother of Marion County.
Mr. Matthes married January 2, 1926, in Marion to Anna Grace Feigley, who survives. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Cardington.
He was a veteran of World War I in which he served as an interpreter in the medical corps. He was employed at the Marion Engineer Depot. A resident of Cardington 15 years, he went there from the Windfall community in Marion County.
Surviving besides his widow are a son and two daughters, Walter S. Matthes Jr. of Cardington, Mrs. Hazel Williams and Mrs. Margaret Graham, both of Cardington; a sister, Mrs. Lydia Ault of near Cardington; two brothers, Henry Matthes of Mt. Gilead and Frederick Matthes of Ashley.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at the Schaffner-Denzer Funeral Home by Rev. M. E. Hollensen, pastor of Emanuel Lutheran Church. Burial will be made in Marion Cemetery.
