MARTHA ANN WILSON
(1840-1929)

Martha Ann, eldest daughter of Silas and Eliza Boynton, was born in Pelham, Massachusetts, January 17, 1840. There she grew to womanhood and in 1856 married Stephen Rhodes, also of Pelham. There they made their home. Two children were born to this union. They are both living, Arthur, the older, and Mary, Mrs. Mary Rose, the younger. Both reside in the town of Gilmanton.

In June, 1869, she and her two children came to Gilmanton and in the fall of the same year they moved to Modena where they lived until the following spring. Thence they moved to the Bates' place in the town of Alma. In the spring of 1871 she moved to Turner Valley in the town of Gilmanton and rented the Gilkey farm. In 1873 she took up a homestead of 80 acres in Turner Valley which was her final home.

On January 9, 1882, she married Samuel A. Wilson. By their hard work and energy they made themselves a comfortable home on the homestead. On July 24, 1893, Mr. Wilson died and his widow continued to live on the original homestead. Her son, Arthur, came to live with her at that time and remained with her until her death.

On December 18, she was taken ill with what seemed a minor ailment, but, due to her great age, her strength failed rapidly. Tuesday evening, December 23, at 6:45, she passed peacefully away surrounded by her children and loved ones. In addition to her children, Mrs. Wilson is survived by four grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild. ....

The funeral was held Thursday afternoon, December 26, from the church and was entirely under the auspices of the Royal Neighbor Lodge. Interment was in the Gilmanton cemetery.
