NORFOLK — Services for Larry G. Follette, 63, of Norfolk were scheduled at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Home for Funerals with burial in Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery. Military rites were by the U.S. Marine Corps Honor Guard, American Legion Post 16 and VFW Post 1644.

Mr. Follette died at Faith Regional Health Services on Monday, Dec. 13, 2010.

Larry was born on Aug. 14, 1947, in Norfolk, the son of Frank and Frances (Timm) Follette. He was raised in Norfolk and graduated from Battle Creek High School in 1966. He enlisted in the U.S. Marines on Sept. 6, 1966. Larry served in the First Battalion of Hotel Company. He was recipient of the Purple Heart and earned his honorable discharge on Oct. 15, 1969.

In April of 1969, Larry married Karen Dean. They had one daughter, Tracey. On April 7, 1972, Karen was killed in a car-pedestrian accident.

After returning to Norfolk, Larry was employed at Sherwood Industries.

In August of 1973, Larry married Debbie Sue Meierhenry. They had three children, twins, Travis and Schelly, who died in infancy, and Jacqueline. The couple later divorced in 1982.

Larry earned his associate of arts degree in criminal justice at Northeast Community College. He also attended classes at Wayne State College. He worked for the State of Nebraska Department of Correction as a parole officer.

On March 31, 1994, Larry married Susan Zierke in Madison.

Larry began his career as a meat cutter at Roman Meats. He later went to work for Dubuque Packing Company. He also worked at Jake's Bar. At the time of his death, Larry was employed at Cottonwood Products.

Larry enjoyed birds, raising fish, gardening and landscaping. He was an avid fan of the Nebraska Cornhuskers. He had a great sense of humor.

Larry is survived by his mother; wife of 16 years; his children and their spouses, Tracey and Robert Nelson of Norfolk, Travis Follette of Norfolk, Jacqueline Follette of Lincoln.; stepson and his wife, Mike and Ashley Wolverton; 11 grandchildren and three great- grandchildren; one brother and his wife, Clint and Donella Follette of Tilden.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, an infant daughter, his father and one brother.
