Services Pending for Vietnam Victim
The body of Warrant Officer 1st Class Richard John Warden, Sheboygan County's 15th fatality of the Vietnam War, is en route back home.
Funeral services at the Ballhorn Funeral Chapels are pending the arrival of the serviceman's body with military escort.
Warrant Officer Warden, the 20-year-old son of Richard and Mary Roth Warden of 926 Bell Ave., was killed Saturday in a helicopter flight during a mission over enemy territory in Vietnam.
Details of his death and plans for the return of the body are being sent to his family by mail from his commanding officer.
Born July 13, 1949, in Sheboygan, Officer Warden was baptized and confirmed in St. Mark Lutheran Church, attended Washington School, Urban Junior High School and was a graduate of North High.
He attended the Sheboygan County Campus of the University of Wisconsin for one year before enlisting in the Army in November 1968.
Warden received his pilot's wings and appointment as a warrant officer in November 1969, at Hunter Air Force Base in Georgia. He had been in Vietnam since Jan. 1 this year and had been an aircraft commander since April.
Active in church work, he was president of St. Mark Lutheran Church unit of the Walther League in his junior year in high school and the following year was president of the She-Ko-Fa Zone of the Walther League.
Survivors are his parents; two brothers, Marlin, 18, and David, 4; a sister, Cynthia Lou, 13; his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl T. Roth of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Suring, Wis., and his paternal grandmother, Mrs. M. N. Warden of Sheboygan.
A metmorial [sic] fund has been established in his name for the St. Mark's Lutheran Church building fund.

Funeral services for Warrant Officer 1-C Richard J. Warden, 20, who died in Vietnam July 4, will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Louis Huber, pastor, officiating.
Warden's body arrived in Sheboygan Thursday night, escorted by 2nd Lt. Philip Lauro, stationed at Ft. Sheridan, Ill.
Military rites will be held at the graveside at Wildwood Cemetery, where he will be buried following the service.
Friends may call at the church after 5 p.m. today.
