Mrs. Woerfel was a former kindergarten teacher in Sturgeon Bay and Milwaukee. She was active in the community and church activities until late in life. She was a member of the Sturgeon Bay Moravain Church; the Women's Fellowship and taught Sunday school.
The subject of a feature story in 1977 at the age of 95, Mrs. Woerfel was still writing poetry, knitting and tending to her garden. She lived with her daughter, Winifred Weber, who survives with one grandson Edward Daniel Weber of Hartland, Wisconsin and five great-grandchildren: Kevin, Todd, Jason, Dan and Jim.
The former Agnes Long was married to Adolph Woerfel, a druggist on December 14, 1912 after earning her degree in what was then the Milwaukee State Teachers College, now the University of Milwaukee.
Although she was not active in her husband's popular West side pharmacy, she remembers eating "ices" at the wrought iron tables and shopping at his marvelous notorious counter. Mr. Woerfel preceded her in death along with four brothers, one sister and one great-grandchild.
Services for Mrs. Woerfel will be held 11 am Wednesday at Davis Mortuary with interment in Bayside Cemetery. There will be no visitation.
