Minister, singer, musician. Affectionately known as "Father Hayes" because of his paternal qualities, his compassion, his concern for, and interest in people. Founder and pastor for over 50 years of Chicago's Cosmopolitan Church of Prayer. Hayes had been a fixture in the Gospel Music Industry since the early sixties. He and the Cosmopolitan Church of Prayer Choir (aka the Mighty Warriors) recorded over 30 albums over 50 years. The energetic choir produced gospel hits such as "The Bridegroom Cometh," "Step Back and Let God Do It," "Everyday is a Day of Thanksgiving," "Every Time I Feel the Spirit" and their signature tune, "Jesus Can Work It Out." Two songs went gold and many others landed in the #1 spot on several music charts. The choir were the recipients of two Stellar Awards for Choir of the Year and Video of the Year in 2006. Hayes himself was the recipient of numerous honors and awards. He was ordained in the Ministry on August 31, 1957 and later organized Cosmopolitan Church of Prayer on April 28, 1959. He passed away at age 76 after a lengthy illness.
