Born in Duncan, Joseph Galus made his classical studies at Teutopolis, Illinois, and upon entering the Order of Friars Minor on June 17, 1908, was given the religious name of Cornelius. Ordained to the priesthood at Lincoln's Cathedral by Bishop Henry Tihen in 1916, due to his frail health he was sent to Arizona, where he passed away at St. John's on April 16, 1921, at the early age of 33.
