Mr. Mavis was a resident of Grosse Pointe Shores. He passed away at his son's home. He was predeceased by his devoted wife, Jackelin (née Schmidt). They were married for 63 years. Beloved father of four daughters and a son. Dear grandfather of nine, and of two great-grandchildren. He served his country during WWII as a U.S.Army paratrooper, in the 2nd Airborne. After his military service, he attended and graduated from Indiana Technical College, with. B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering. He then worked for Wayne and Macomb County Road Commissions. After that, he started his own firm, Mavis, Landwehr & Associates. He was active in engineering many residential and commercial projects in the greater Detroit area. He encouraged his children in the real estate and development business. He also gave student interns the opportunity to go to college and earn civil engineering degrees.
