KELLEHER, Charles ``Charlie''
Charles ``Charlie'' Kelleher, a resident of St. Ann Home in Dover, NH, died on Sunday, (August 12, 2007) after a lengthy illness. Charlie was the son of the late John and Katherine Kelleher and brother of the late John Kelleher. He was the loving husband of the late Peggy Kelleher and leaves behind a daughter, Kathie Kelleher Jones of Merrimac, MA; his sons, Neil Kelleher of Portsmouth, NH, Paul Kelleher of Dover, NH and Mark Kelleher who resides in Russia. Charlie also leaves behind his sister, June Fahey of Wakefield, MA; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. A graduate of Malden High School, Charlie studied at Maryknoll Seminary and obtained his B.A. at Boston College. He received his Masters degree from American University in Washington, DC. Charlie was a Korean War veteran and worked with Army Intelligence (CIC) in Washington DC. After leaving the Army, he discovered his passion for teaching and began his career as a classroom teacher in Virginia. After moving to Avon, he began 25 years of distinguished teaching in West Hartford. He touched the lives of many sixth graders during this time and many of them became his life long friends in return. In the mid 1970's, Charlie took an early retirement to pursue a creative life with his wife Peggy. They made stained glass clocks, mirrors and kiln fired glass dishes, which were highly sought out and collectable. They spent time visiting their beloved Eastham on Cape Cod and traveling many times to Europe and Disney World. Charlie loved to tell stories and write poetry. He was many things to many people but above all, he was a friend. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Immaculate Conception Church, 98 Summer St., Portsmouth on Friday at 9:30 a.m. Visiting hours will be held at the Farrell Funeral Home, 684 State St., Portsmouth on Thursday, from 4-7 p.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Portsmouth. Memorials may be made to St. Ann Nursing Home, 195 Dover Point Rd., Dover, NH 03820.
