Ben Mumper, 80, of Albany died Monday at Timberwood Court. Born in Salem to Benjamin P. and Kathleen May (Weid) Mumper, Ben attended Albany Union High School, and graduated from Franklin High School in Portland in 1952. In 1953 Ben entered the US Army and proudly served until his discharge in 1956.

On September 28th, 1957 he married Catherine Ann Simon at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Portland. Ben's 31 year career as a telephone company supervisor placed them in Portland until 1961, Salem until 1970, Albany from 1970-1985, Tualatin from 1985-1991, and returning to Albany in 1991.

Ben was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, and an active volunteer with Linn County CASA, SMART, and the Albany Visitors Association.

Survivors include Ben's wife Catherine of Albany; daughters Julie Olson of Salem, Linda Sherman of Portland, and Jeanne Palmer of Albany; son Jon Mumper of Ewa Beach, Hawaii; sisters Connie Basinski of Vancouver, WA and Kathleen Starr of Kirkland, WA; 13 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
