Her obituary in the Carroll Chronicle, Carrollton, Ohio, Friday, August 3, 1894.

After a lingering illness Mrs. Harriet Gantz, widow of George Gantz, passed from earth to immortality, Friday evening last. She was born in Baltimore in 1821, and at the time of her death was 72 years, two months old. Her parents, John Jackson and wife, moved to this county when she was but a girl. In 1840 she was married to George Gantz and together they improved their land in Union Township and suffered the privations of pioneer life. Five sons and one daughter were born to them. The husband and two sons have died in recent years.
Mr. and Mrs. Gantz were united with the Disciple Church over thirty years ago and clung to the tenets of that faith with fervor. She was kindly disposed, mild in her manner, and ruled her family with love and kindness. Although of delicate health she outlived all of her father's family as well as her husband. The remains were interred Sunday, Rev. Rader officiating.
