R.W. HACKER ENTERS FINAL SLEEP
R.W. Hacker, a resident of Lake View for the past thirty years, passed away last Friday, March 11, 1938, at his home. His death, which was due to heart trouble, occurred at about 2 o'clock p.m. He had been ailing for the past two years, and was confined to his bed for about two months. Mr. Hacker was 83 years, 4 months ad 27 days of age.
Funeral services were held at 10 o'clock Monday morning from the Temple Funeral Home, with interment in the Ferguson cemetery.
Rev. A. B. Gedye of the Methodist Episcopal church officiated.
"Just As I Am" and "Abide With Me" were sung by Mrs. W.E. Deur and Mrs. Fred Wells. Miss Betty Spencer was the accompanist.
The pallbearers were H.H. Peper, Martin Schoneboom, Al Dano, John Gottsch, Tjark Jansen and Fred Leese.
Richard Wilbur Hacker was born at Milledgeville, Ill., on Oct. 14, 1854, and passed away at Lake View, Iowa, on March 11, 1938.
A candy maker by trade, he operated a candy store in Sac City, and on selling out to Mr. Truesdale, came to Lake View, where he engaged in the same line of work for a number of years in a building he owned at the head of Main Street.
His wife, Mrs. Katie Hynes Hacker, passed away in November 1927.
He is survived by a daughter of a former marriage, Mrs. H.W. Werger of Omaha and a stepson, Walter Hynes of Rock Valley, Iowa. Also by a half brother, W.K. Palmer of Sterling, Ill.
A fall on the ice when he was 12 years of age deprived him of his hearing. Of a naturally sociable disposition, he was hindered in his intercourse with his fellowmen by this affliction, but maintained his interest in people and things about him.
