Robert A. (Cud) Wells, 87, of the Route 21 Mobile Home Park, Carmichaels, died at 3:25 p.m. Sunday, March 2, 1997, at Greene County Memorial Hospital, Waynesburg.
He was born March 6, 1909, in Wayne Township, Greene County, son of the late John Wells and Savilla Gilbert Wells.
Mr. Wells was retired from the Consolidated Gas Supply Co. of Lebanon, Ohio, with 52 years of service as an engineer.
He was a member of the Pursley Baptist Church in Oak Forest and a former member of the Waynesburg Elks and Moose lodges.
Mr. Wells had his own band, The Free Spirits, that played round and square dances throughout the area. He played fiddle, banjo, piano and called the dances.
Surviving are his wife, Helen Kerns Carpenter Wells, whom he married July 2, 1964; 11 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and 6 step-great-grandchildren.
Deceased are two brothers, Charles Wells and Fred Wells; and two sons, Bobby Wells, who died in infancy, and John A. Wells.
