Americus Hart was the son of Reuben Hart and Elizabeth (Betsey) Cole Hart.

Americus V. Hart served in Company H. 34th New York Infantry in the Civil War. He enlisted at the age of 22 on May 1, 1861 at Crown Point, NY for 3 years service. As part of the Army of the Potomac, his regiment took part in the Battles of Seven Pines, Savage Station, Antietam, Fredericksburg, and Salem Heights. He was mustered out with the regiment on June 30, 1863 at Albany, NY.
