U.S. Congressman. He graduated from the College of Meadville, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1829 and commenced to practice law in Greensburg, Pennsylvania. In 1843, he was elected as a Democrat to the Twenty-eighth and Twenty-ninth Congresses, serving until 1847. After his term, he served as a member of the Pennsylvania State House of Representatives, (1857-58). He was again elected to the Forty-second Congress and served (1871-73). An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed the practice of law until his death at age 71.
