U.S. Congressman. He attended York Collegiate Institute and served as a Seaman Second Class, in the U.S. Navy, during World War I. After the war, he graduated from Pennsylvania State University, in 1921 and operated a fruit farm near Loganville, Pennsylvania. Entering politics, he was a member of the Pennsylvania State House of Representatives, (1943-57) and director on the local school board, (1933-61). In 1961, he was elected as a Republican to the Eighty-seventh and Eighty-eighth Congresses, serving until 1965. He was again elected to the Ninetieth Congress and to the next three succeeding Congresses, serving (1967-75). Not a candidate for reelection, he resumed his farming interests until his death at age 86.
