Roman Catholic Cardinal. Born in Genoa, Italy, where his father was serving as Colombian consul of the city, Mario Revollo Bravo was raised in Bogotá, where he entered seminary. Pursuing his studies in Rome at the Pontifical Gregorian University and Pontifical Biblical Institute, he was ordained priest there in October 1943 at the Chiesa del Gesù of the Jesuit fathers. Back in Bogotá, he served as chaplain to Catholic schools between 1948 and 1967, member of the teaching staff of the major seminary and director of the journal "El Catolicismo" from 1949 until 1966. Appointed auxiliary for the metropolitan see of Bogotá, Revollo Bravo received his episcopal consecration with the titular see of Tinisa di Numidia on December 2, 1973. Promoted to the metropolitan see of Nueva Pamplona on February 28, 1978, he served as president of the Episcopal Conference of Colombia from 1978 until 1984. On June 25 of the latter year, he was transferred to the metropolitan see of Bogotá, becoming thus primate of Colombia and named bishop of the Military Ordinariate of Colombia. Pope John Paul II created him cardinal priest with the title of San Bartolomeo all'Isola in the consistory of June 28, 1988. Retiring from office in 1994 he succumbed to cancer two years later.
