U.S. Congressman. Successful in manufacturing pursuits, he was Mayor of Waterbury, Connecticut, in 1852 and a member of the Connecticut State House of Representatives, (1851-58). In 1867, he was elected as a Democrat to the Fortieth Congress, serving until 1869. After leaving Congress, he was elected the 35th Lieutenant Governor of Connecticut, serving (1870-72). Retiring from politics, he resumed his manufacturing interests until his death.
